CommentPF05448 AXE1 Acetyl xylan esterase (EC 3.1.1.72) and cephalosporin c deacetylase (EC 3.1.1.41). This domain can be found in several bacterial acetyl xylan esterase proteins. Acetyl xylan esterases are enzymes that hydrolyse the ester linkages of the acetyl groups in position 2 and/or 3 of the xylose moieties of natural acetylated xylan from hardwood. These enzymes are one of the accessory enzymes which are part of the xylanolytic system, together with xylanases, beta-xylosidases, alpha-arabinofuranosidases and methylglucuronidases; these are all required for the complete hydrolysis of xylan Some sequences were previously in the Bacterial_lipase family (thema-TM0077...). Members of the family were associated with IPR000734, the esterase and lipase active site serine. This family contains the carbohydrate esterase family seven (CE-7) see the CAZy (Carbohydrate-Active enZYmes server ) (CE_7)
