CommentABHD17 proteins are protein depalmitoylases that regulate N-Ras palmitate turnover and subcellular localization (Lin and Conibear 2015) They are probably themselves palmitoylated. ABHD17A, 17B, and 17C, are identified as the physiological PSD-95 (the most abundant postsynaptic density scaffolding protein) depalmitoylating enzymes in neurones (Yokoi et al.). The acyl protein thioesterases (APT1:LYPLA1, APT2: LYPLA2) are G protein depalmitoylases and accept also a number of S-palmitoylated protein and phospholipid substrates. They belong to a closely related family: LYsophospholipase_carboxylesterase
