Professor Dr. rer. Nat. Ferdinand Hucho was born on August 14, 1939 in Berlin and he died on may 28, 2023, at the age of 83. He was a highly original and innovative bio- and neurochemist. One of his central research subjects was the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR), while he also worked on Acetylcholinesterase. Moreover, he was able to show for the first time that certain isozymes of protein kinase (PKC) not only migrate to the cell nucleus when signal-activated, but also appear there in special sub-compartments such as the nucleolus and the nuclear pore complex. He was a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science. A translation in English of the obituary written in German by Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Christoph Markschies can be found here pdf
