Norman Aldridge was born in 1919 and died in 1996. He established much of the basic enzymology on the interaction of organophosphorus esters with esterases. He classified these into A, B, or C esterases according to whether organophosphorus esters were hydrolyzed by them, were inhibited, or did not interact either way. A tribute to his work was published by Martin K. Johnson obituary paper.
