A wish to organize lipase kinetics has recently led to collaboration between three laboratories in the south of France:
the EIPL and AFMB labs in Marseille
and the DMEM lab in Montpellier.
Since the onset of biochemical researches on soap, kinetics data never stopped to expend, and it now appears that most lipases do not display a well-defined specificity but instead, can act on wide ranges of substrates.
These features (expending data and substrate diversity) justify the need for a new, adapted bioinformatics tool to precisely compare all available kinetics data on lipases in taking into account most if not all experimental conditions.
Likid is a collaborative database whose purpose is to allow any member of any lab to upload his/her own data in a controlled format and to compare them with all other data deposited by others using the same format.
Ultimately Likid will provide its users with a statistical analysis tool.
Satellite database of ESTHER which focuses on lipases well defined biochemically.
Allows users to compare kinetics of enzymes (wt or mutated) on various substrates with or without inhibitor.
Provides tools to upload and explore your kinetics.

Lipases are essential enzymes involved in catalyse of lipids.
For exemple, they are widely involved in catalyse of dietary lipids during digestion.
The degradation of triglycerid in free fatty acid (FFA) and glycerol is a complex process which includes mechanical, physicochemical as well as biochemical steps.
Indeed, enzymes and substrates are solubles in two different phases and this makes the efficacity of the reaction very dependant on the condition of the in-vitro experimentation.
This reaction require an emulsification of the substrate which can be made by different ways, each one resulting in a specific emulsion and a different activity for the enzyme.
To allow reproducibility and comparison of results, it seems to be essential to normalize conditions of experimentation.
Inhibitors of the reaction are well studied due to their possible use in the fight against obesity.
Here four methods are discribed to test inhibition activity of molecules.
